Phantom stimulus jobs in Georgia

November 17th, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Earlier this week, the AP reported that jobs created by the Pelosi-Reid-Obama spending scheme in Georgia were overstated by more than 1,500.

Now those fake jobs have some company: fake congressional districts.

According to the Recovery.gov Web site, seven Georgia congressional districts that do not exist received millions of federal stimulus dollars. Click below for a screenshot of the website:

Recovery.Gov claims that 1 job was created in the seven phantom congressional districts with a total of $6,217,770 federal stimulus dollars spent.  What’s worse: that the districts don’t exist or that the federal government spent more than $6 million to create one job?

October 28th, 2009 by Jack's Interns

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is on track to exceed last year’s fundraising by more than $10 million, thanks in part to the Obama administration’s decision to target the pro-business group, according to the organization’s president.

October 6th, 2009 by Legislative Staff

Jack spoke on the floor of the House this evening to discuss his efforts to bring more accountabilty and transparency to President Obama’s unprecedented use of czars to implement a broad array of policy goals.  Earlier this year, Jack introduced legislation which would withhold funding from any czar not confirmed by the U.S. Senate as outlined in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution.

Obama underestimates policy cost by $4 trillion…

September 23rd, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Analysis out today from the Heritage Foundation shows that when President Obama estimated his policies would put the nation in debt another $9 trillion over the next 10 years, he underestimated himself.

According to its analysis, void of budget gimmicks employed by the Administration, Obama’s agenda will increase the debt carried by taxpayers by $13 trillion - not $9 which is already more debt incurred by the nation since our founding.  Heritage found:

  • An additional $5 trillion in spending, $1 trillion in revenues, and $4 trillion in deficits over the next decade;
  • Budget deficits adding $13 trillion to the national debt over the next decade;
  • The national debt held by the public surpassing $20 trillion by 2019, reaching nearly 100 percent of gross domestic product (GDP)

NEA playing mind games with Americans?

September 22nd, 2009 by Spokesblogger

For those of you who agreed with Jack that pouring “stimulus” money to the National Endowment for the Arts would do little to stimulate the economy and create jobs, here’s another tid bit that you might find interesting:

Jake Tapper, who covers the White House for ABC News, reports an August 10 conference call sponsored by the “non-partisan” government agency included encouragement from agency officials to “create art to further the president’s goals.”  A transcript from the call shows the official saying:

“I would encourage you to pick something, whether it’s health care, education, the environment, you know, there’s four key areas that the corporation has identified as the areas of service,”

Let’s see - socialized medicine, nationalization of student loans, and Cap & Tax.  Someone realized selling these required true art…

Cap And Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year

September 16th, 2009 by Spokesbloggette

CBS News just posted the article below.

The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent.

A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration’s estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year.

RELEASE: KINGSTON QUESTIONS PRESIDENT’S DOUBLE STANDARD ON SCHOOL CHOICE

September 8th, 2009 by Press Staff

Congressman asks, “if it’s good enough for them, why wasn’t it good enough for him?”

Congressman Jack Kingston (R/GA-1) today called on President Obama to explain why he intends to deny nearly 2,000 Washington, D.C. students the school choice enjoyed by the President during his academic career.

“It’s always a challenge for a private school elitist to address public school children,” Congressman Kingston said.  “From his days at a private school in Hawaii until he graduated from Harvard Law, President Obama not once attended an American public school.  Now that he’s shown an interest in education, perhaps he’ll specifically talk to the 1,800 kids whose school choice he’s taken away.  If it’s good enough for them, why wasn’t it good enough for him?”

In 2004, Congress passed with bipartisan support the D.C. School Choice Incentive Act which provides the District’s low-income student with an opportunity to have more education choices.  Thus far the Washington Opportunity Scholars Program (OSP) has served 3,002 students with 3,738 scholarships being awarded out of more than 7,700 applications.

Despite overwhelming demand and widespread community support, President Obama and congressional Democrats have sought to end the program through slowly removing funding and only allowing those currently in program to receive scholarships in the future.

Hypocrisy what?

September 8th, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Democrats are attacking conservatives who’ve expressed concerns about the President’s speech today to the nation’s school children.  While they’re crying foul now, Democrats not only publicly decried the speech but demanded the Government Accountability Office conduct an investigation and later called top Administration officials to a lengthy hearing on the issue.  Some other examples:

  • The Washington Post reported that day that, “The White House turned a Northwest Washington junior high classroom into a television studio and its students into props.”
  • Then-Majority Leader Dick Gephardt said, “The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertisements for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students and the president should be doing more about education than saying, ‘lights, camera, action.’”
  • Then-Education Committee Chairman William Ford called in then-Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander to a hearing saying, “As the Chairman of the Committee charged with authorization and implementation of education programs, I am very much interested in the justification, rationale for giving the White House scarce education funds to produce a media event.”
  • Rep. Martin Frost (D-Tex.) said that if Bush feels obliged to use government funds to hire outside consultants “to make him look good,” then he should fire some of the public relations experts on the White House payroll. “Then the president might be more sympathetic to unemployment benefits,” Frost said, referring to Bush’s threat to veto legislation to extend benefits.
  • Despite the GAO’s investigation determining the speech to be legal, Democratic allies swooped in with the National Education Association saying it, “cannot endorse a president who spends $26,000 of taxpayers’ money on a staged media event.”

TUNE IN OR TIVO – Jack on Your World with Neil Cavuto TODAY

September 7th, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Jack will appear on FOX News’ Your World with Neil Cavuto TODAY at 4:00 p.m. (eastern) to discuss the resignation of Van Jones, President Obama’s Green Jobs Czar.  In addition, he will talk about his ongoing efforts to bring more transparency and accountability to President Obama’s specially-appointed czars.  For more information, check your local listings.

Earlier this year, Jackintroduced legislation which would withhold any funding from President Obama’s czars unless they are confirmed by the United States Senate.  With Mr. Jones the second czar to resign amid scandal, shouldn’t those given unprecedented power undergo the same scrutiny as more than 1,000 presidential appointees granted much less power?

WHAT WE’RE HEARING

July 31st, 2009 by Spokesbloggette

Energy and Commerce worked until midnight last night, and will reconvene at 10am this morning.  They are expected to finish their health care markup sometime this afternoon.

Last night’s most heated debates in E&C revolved around publicly-funded abortions.  Lois Capps was able to pass an amendment permitting the Democrats’ government plan to cover elective abortions.  Reps. Pitts and Stupak followed that up with an amendment of their own, prohibiting abortions from being covered under the government plan.  That amendment passed.  Finally, Chairman Waxman reconsidered the vote–switched Bart Gordon’s vote–and defeated the amendment.  The result of all of this dizzying maneuvering?  Taxpayer-funded abortions are indeed covered by the Democrats’ bill.
