DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS SPLIT OVER GOVERNMENT HEALTHCARE

Washington, Aug 2, 2007 -

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Last night, Congressman Jack Kingston voted against the Democrats’ attempt to move towards socialized medicine and issued the following statement:

“This is a classic case of those who believe in government expansion and government solutions continuing to put more burdens on the American taxpayer. Under the guise of children and a state grant program that only needs tweaking, the liberals have hijacked SCHIP for a major push towards socialized medicine.”

“This bill cuts Medicare by $193 billion dollars, it allows illegal immigrants access to the program and eliminates the waiting period for legal immigrants. It also spends just $1 million for interpreters. Now, not only is America turning into a job magnet, but a health care magnet too. So much for immigration reform.”

“Furthermore, there is a policy tax on all currently insured taxpayers along with an increase in taxes on cigarettes. For the plan to work, Democrats will need 22 million new smokers. And after all of this, the bill still allows millions of adults to be eligible for a children’s health care plan.”

“Hopefully the President will veto this political sham and we will have a chance to craft a balanced, bipartisan plan.”
